SEARCH for DAMOCLES (S4D) (2006-2010)

SEARCH for DAMOCLES (S4D) aims at a coordination of major European (DAMOCLES) and US (SEARCH) Arctic research activities during the International Polar Year (2007-2008).

The project rests on recent initiatives of Europe and the United States in the field of the Arctic marine ecosystems and global change, with a specific emphasis on long-term observations of the Arctic ocean.

The EU-funded Specific Support Action SEARCH for DAMOCLES (S4D) started on 1 October, 2006. S4D aims at a coordination of major European (DAMOCLES) and US (SEARCH) Arctic research activities during the International Polar Year (2007-2008).

The synchronization of these programs will increase the acquisition of data concerning the Arctic, their analysis, their distribution and storage, as well as the communication with the public, while avoiding gaps and redundancies. International workshops and conferences will be organized to improve understanding and cooperation also with other partners such as Canada, Russia and certain Asian countries (Japan, China and South Korea).

Some more information on the human dimension aspects of S4D can be found at the S4D related page of SEARCH-HDQ.
